Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during a high-level meeting with the state officials in Patna on Thursday, directed the District Magistrates to camp in rural areas to monitor the implementations of a variety of schemes and to keep a close tab on local authorities who have been accused of indulging in corrupt practices.

The meeting was called in the aftermath of complaints filed by the villagers who accuse the local government bodies of intimidation to pressure them into surrendering to their illegal demands.

"Excuses have no room in the government. We must go after those who are flouting the laws of the land and make sure the welfare schemes have real effects on the people at the ground level," The Chief Minister said.

Kumar asked the District Magistrates to hold public grievance meetings in their districts and address their concerns in an impartial and fair manner to earn the people’s respect.

Schemes like NREGA and Indira Awaas Yojana should be monitored closely, disputes related to lands must be resolved justly, and amicably, he said.

The Chief Minister also expressed his concerns over the recent surge in Naxal activities in Bihar.

"Despite some recent setbacks, the government’s ‘Aapki Sarkar, Aapke Dwar’ was beginning to show some signs of improvement. The ultras are targeting only those areas where we have not been able to deploy adequate security arrangement," Director General of Police (DGP) Anand Shankar said.

Besides the DGP, Chief secretary Anoop Mukherjee, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister R. C. P. Singh, and a host of District Magistrates and Commissioners were present at the meeting.

What would be a super cheap, low key place to take my bf during spring break '10 in the U.S.?
This is going to sound crazy, lol, but I just won $2500 on a lottery ticket. No shit.

I’ve been dreaming for the last 2 years to bring my bf to the states. He lives in Uganda (we met during an internship I had where he works 2 summers ago). I didn’t think I’d be able to bring him here until after I graduated college and the whole shebang.

I’ve already got this year and next year paid for through scholarships (I also found out I won another $1500 scholarship today!!) and so I’m thinking to hell with it, I’m only going to live once…and this is something I’ve always dreamed of being able to do.

All of that said, I go to school in south-central Colorado and I would fly him in to New York. I check all of the time on flight prices and, after accounting for roundrtip airfare, visa fees, getting him to the embassy and airport, and all of that, I’d have about $500 left over (super low estimate).

I make $500/month while in college and could easily save another $1500 towards the trip, for a total of $2000 to pay for airfare for me wherever we’d go, busfare for him to get to where we go (I’d fly him in a few days early), hotel, expenses, and food.

Thoughts on where we ought to go? I’m cool with sleeping at a Motel 6 and the fanciest restaurant in town being Red Lobster–I was raised on those kinds of vacations. I don’t want to go to your typical SB destination–aka, any place with a beach, drunken teens everywhere, and no hotels less than $150/night.

Here are the things I’d like:
hotel fare for <$120/night (for one week)
good public transportation or many things within walking distance
decent sights if in the city, or cheap-but-romantic if in the boonies
cheap, low-key atmosphere.

I’m open to pretty much anywhere, though someplace east of CO is preferred since I’ll most likely fly him into NY.
